Data and artificial intelligence (AI) are redefining how organizations innovate and create value. The CAS in Data Science & Management, offered by HEC Lausanne and EPFL, enables executives to transform data and AI into strategic assets by connecting business and technology dimensions.
Presentation of the program
Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have become central drivers of innovation, productivity, and growth in today’s economy. Yet, while the opportunities are immense, many organizations struggle to assess their business relevance, value and risks and define realistic use cases and pathways for a transformation into truly data and AI-driven enterprises.
The CAS in Data Science and Management offered in collaboration between HEC Lausanne and EFPL provides a comprehensive view of data and AI-driven transformation from both business and technology perspectives. It empowers leaders and professionals to effectively harness data, analytics and AI to drive innovation, get the foundations right, and lead their organization’s transformation.
Through 4 modules, you will
- demystify the latest trends, such as generativeAI, LLMs or data mesh
- understand what it takes to create business value from data and AI, how to define your and AI strategy and roadmap.
- gain hands-on experiences with AI and ML, using a low-code platform
- learn how to manage data as an enterprise asset through effective data governance and data democratization within your organization
In your capstone project, you will develop your own data project (usually for your employer) with the support of coaches from the Swiss Data Science Center and the Competence Center Corporate Data Quality (CC CDQ).

Program's curriculum
The open program in Data science & management is a CAS designed for professionals wishing to develop new skills in parallel with their professional activity. This open program incorporates a strong participatory dimension. The fundamental notions will be presented beforehand, then supplemented and illustrated by numerous practical exercises based on real cases.
The Data science & management program consists of 4 blocks and includes the writing of a final report . This represents 16 days spread over 9 months. That represents a total of 128 hours of teaching and about as many hours of personal work.

Individual Data Project
The Individual Data Project - IDP - is the flagship project of the CAS in Data science & management. Participants are encouraged to start the program with a concrete data transformation objective in mind (usually for their employer). They will develop their project throughout the program with the support of professors and experts from HEC Lausanne, UNIL and EPFL. The IDP consists of a written report and an oral presentation.
